The construction of Milk Processing Unit (MPU) at Thrisa was completed recently and handed over to Dzongkhag Administration on 26th of May 2021.  Following the handing taking of structure, Dasho Dzongda Dzongkhag Administration, Zhemgang, graced the opening ceremony of MPU on 28th of May 2021. With the opening of such facilities, it is expected to benefit Thrisa youth group consisting of eleven female and one male for processing of better-quality Dairy products. In addition, it will also provide opportunities to the non-member to market their fresh milk and generate income at their door step. Following are, some of the main objectives of having MPU at Thirsa Chigwog;

• Collect fresh milk, process and market through one channel.
• Generate income through sale of quality milk and milk products
• Create employment for the youth in long run
• To meet the dairy products for school feeding program under the Gewog

The opening ceremony was attended by the staff from Regional Livestock Development Centre, Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Planning unit, Gewog Administration -  Shingkhar, Group members of Thrisa Youth Group and Farmer of Thrisa village.  The MPU was constructed at the cost of Nu 1.5 million funded by RGOB with the financial year 2020-2021.

In addition to this cost over Nu 3.116 million was supported by RLDC towards formation of Group, fodder development, fencing material, supply of Jersey Heifers, equipment for feed formulation and Capacity Development. Dzongkhag now has seven milk processing units established within the Gewog.

Sector in collaboration with the youths aim to supply milk and its products constantly to school children and other gewog officials. As a part of opening ceremony Dasho also handed over the Group by-law, bank account book and agreement on handing over of MPU structure to the group members. Sector in collaboration with RLDC will be supporting the youth group till they are confident in running the MPU comfortably.
